Technology Self-Assesment: School 2.0

I visited the School 2.0 site to see where I stood in regards to technology. I took the Technology Self-Assesment Test (as you can see below) and came to find out that I really needed more education when it came to digital citizenship as well as to discover the tools to engage in professional growth and leadership. I also comment on a new (new to me) tool called Google Groups, which would help me in these areas.

The NETS-T Standard that I investigated was NETS-T 4 & 5. NETS-T 4 is to promote and model digital citizenship and responsibility. NETS-T 5 is to engage in professional growth and leadership. These are important to me because I hope to be able to utilize other people and cultures as a resource for my future teaching career.

After taking the Technology Self-Assesment: School 2.0, one new resource that seems interesting as well as somewhat obvious, is the Google Groups. This day in age, there are so many new communities, online resources and chat groups to assist with anything and everything. Google Groups is no different. I took a "tour" of the new Google Groups and found it to be quite specific. They had groups from Colleges & University to Visual Arts and everything in between as each group had a subgroup. The options for language selection also helps to narrow down the results and one may also filter through (as if it were JUST Google).

The random search I just did consisted of the following:
Arts & Entertainment to Dance then filtered by English (non-UK), filtered by United States and finally filtered by California.
The results that I found were those of local dance groups (think everything from "SWAGGER dancing" to "Berkley Social Ballroom Dancing"), events, and dance academies.

I could see this feature being very rewarding for all, not just teachers and students. Although, the benefits for teachers and students for world wide issues to local issues is astronomical. Not to mention the fact that Google is the most commonly used search engine at this time.
